this winter will be different
Hi cuties, lots to catch up on, as always!
Well, it finally happened. It’s -10 degrees and SUPER SNOWY, but I don’t hate it. Last winter, I read a great book called Wintering, which helped me change my perspective (just a little bit) about winter. Having lived in Calgary pretty much my whole life, I am no stranger to surviving winter, but I’m on a new mission to try to not just survive but also thrive.
I saw someone post on Instagram stories about this book called, How To Winter, and I decided to give it a shot. I’m now on my second read of this book because it’s so fantastic. It’s evidence-based but also tells stories of people living in really harsh climates, with little to no daylight, and how they actually enjoy winter. It covers things like how to prepare for the season, how to embrace rest, how to change your daily habits to accommodate the season, winter-specific activities to savour, and mindset shifts to adopt. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Last night, I had the pleasure of sitting on a panel at Mount Royal University for a ‘Pumpkin Spice and Career Advice’ personal branding workshop as an industry professional.
This event was organized by the MRU Marketing Society to teach students how to tell their own brand story, and one of our amazing interns at Arcade, Pamela Troncozo, invited me to attend. I’m always blown away by our interns, and Pamela is no exception. I’m not sure how she manages school, work, and her volunteer position as Vice President of the MRU Marketing Society with such grace and enthusiasm, but I am proud to know her.
This was my second time speaking at MRU as a professional, and once again, I was blown away by the warm welcome (even though I’m a proud University of Calgary alum!).
Opportunities like this, where I get to “go back to school” and connect with emerging marketing professionals, are something I always say yes to. It’s honestly so fun and I love seeing the next generation of marketing professionals coming out of school. The future is so bright!

What else have I been up to?
Mac and I escaped to Banff for a two-night getaway, and it was so cozy and fun! We stayed at a new hotel, The Moxy, which was great. We also found a new ramen restaurant and dined at one of my favourite spots, Lupo.
I’ve also been getting into the Christmas spirit a little early this year. I always find that the holiday season goes by so quickly, so this year, I started some festivities in November. My mom, sister and I hit up the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market, which I think is one of the best. This is also your reminder to get your Christmas shopping done early! I’m personally almost done. I think this year is going to be especially stressful with the Canada Post strike. Do yourself a favour, bestie, and get to the mall asap to get it out of the way so you can just enjoy December.
All for now! Seasons greetings!
Mel
